Permission issue while selecting default group?
It should be selecting the left radio button next to the group you belong to and want to make default, and then clicking the button for default group at the bottom right. Check?

Oh for crying out loud there is a permission for it buried in the groups page. Sigh. Yep, thanks, will set that on every group. Individually.
