The Battle at the River

"The spiritual art of meditation allows us to remain flexible in our understanding, giving us a doorway to accept our emotions so we may find peace.” -Alethea Thompson

As she settled into meditation on the rock at the center of the river, Rachel’s mind began to wander. All she wanted to do was to get to the astral plane where she might find peace from the turmoil of this world. Closing her eyes she felt herself melting into the sounds around her, until sound stood still.

Rachel slowly opened her eyes, the tension in the air seem to rise as she saw guns lined up on each side of the bank, pointed at one another. Something hit at one of the banks and a tree exploded, with dirt rising from the ground and splashing into the water. Gunfire opened all around her, bullets seeming to pass right through her.

She was paralyzed as the battle raged. When the dust settled, she could hear her phone receiving notifications. Messages from Facebook and Twitter showed signs of distress all over the country. War had come.

It took a moment, but she found the strength to walk forward, to look at what victims had befallen this atrocity.  On both sides, the faces of the battle at the river began turning to friends and family. The assault took everyone she had loved.

Rachel fell to her knees and wept. She wanted to die. If this was the future, she didn’t want to live to see it.

“We often fear what we see in this realm, Believing that it reflects a future” said a voice. Lifting her eyes, Rachel saw herself looking back at her with kind eyes “it is only when we look beyond the visible and into the soul that the truth is revealed. Look again.”

Rachel looked at each person, and as she studied the first; she recalled a bitter fight on Facebook about something, which now, didn’t matter. As the first memory came in, the memories became more abundant upon looking at each person.

Rachel opened her eyes, the river in her peace rushed around her. “Thank you,” she said to the river, “for your wisdom. I now know the only solution is for me to change, or I will lose what I cherish most.”

Note from the author: This story was inspired by two cards I drew from the Jedi Sextant (Assault & Flexible). I do not normally work with creative writing, however I thought this time I would make an attempt to illustrate another way that one might find a relationship with the Jedi Sextant. If you are joining us this Wednesday for our weekly GoogleHangout (7PM EST), look forward to a discussion about the nature of what we hear from the Force during our meditations. Until then: Nantattaw

(See links below for alternate translations) The Ineffable The Force- The Force is a loosely adapted term to explain something which all cultures agree exists, but disagree on exactly what it is. As such, a Jedi dedicates themselves to an understanding of all things within and through the Force. As a rule, no Jedi can set down in law a concrete definition of the Force for all to follow, only for themselves. Core Ethics Loyalty to the Jedi Code- This has a few different variants depending on what order a Jedi attends. A Jedi is bound by the code. By maintaining your loyalty to the code, you are able to keep your actions in check through the moral integrity of the Jedi Path outlined in the Jedi Code. It is important that a Jedi checks their own version of the code against the original codes…
